We got into this Netflix series because of a review done on NPR -add the fact that Laura Prepon is in it, it piqued our interest…let me explain a little.
We are my wife and myself. We watch a little of everything from Warehouse 13 to The White Queen and throw in between the two: a little Elementary or The Middle and you have our video tastes. Exclusively, I like any docudrama about Unexplained Paranormal events – she derides this visual choice; point me toward any (I mean any) science fiction or fantasy show – which she tolerates for the most part; I enter escapists nirvana. Meanwhile, she watches Sister Wives. Enough said.
Orange is the New Black is pretty good. It’s gritty, yet soft and sometimes even sensitive. Ultimately, worth watching.
On the down side, it is about prison life. Not in my imagination a charming experience, which the series holds true to expectations. There is occasional sex and violence- if you are going to be sensitive to this, stay away. But I feel it is generally not gratuitous, but presented in such a way as to advance the plot.
Watch this series, make it through the first two episodes and I think you will like it.
